Battle on! stars LEGO Minifig series 10 (71001) Warrior Woman and Medusa.
Another series 10 minifigure, the Warrior Woman.
Had time off and good weather so I went on a photowalk with some minifigures.
Plus my minifigures Character Encyclopedia arrived today. I still think the Toy Solider should have been in series 10 for army building. Grandpa, Librarian, or Sea Captain should have been included in the book. They are single character not good for groups. Grandpa has unique hair part and is used in the book to show haw a figure is designed from concept to final figure. The Librarian cause she ties into books. The sea Captain is colorful and
would attract attention.
See previous post about the Character Encyclopedia. Minifigures Character Encyclopedia.
Sick of Snakes stars LEGO Minifig series 10 Medusa and Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. flying car from LEGO Super Heroes Spider-Cycle Chase 76004. Based on Samuel L Jackson’s Snakes on a Plane.
I finally had time to shoot the Medusa minifig. She looks even better than the pictures. The tail is really big as it should be to keep it in scale. I want more of these. I don’t know what I’ll do with them but these are cool. This is my favorite from the collectible series.

The LEGO Lord of the Rings Tower of Orthanc 10237 images hit the web today. The set is massive and beautiful. The set contains 2359 pieces. You get an ideal of how big the Tower is when it is shown in the shot with the Trent and the minifigs. But this video of it gives a better view of the scale of the tower. The set retails for 199.99. I would love to have this.
Today LEGO is sharing LEGO Lord of the Rings codes on their social media sites. Visit their Facebook, Google Plus and Instagram sites for codes. EDIT: I’ve added the code pics here.

To pair with the Moss IT Crowd shirt from earlier this week Chris McVeigh has introduced “Heaven in A Can” He’s selling it at RedBubble right now in a choice of colors and style. Redbubble is more expensive than Tee-fury but they have more choices V-necks, 3/4 sleeves. and long sleeves. hoodies, and baby onesizes.
Hopefully sales of the Moss tee were high enough that Tee-Fury will pic this one up as well.
It’s Heaven In a Can
I have watched clips of the show since Late Monday. It’s funny. Now I just have to find full episodes. Couldn’t watch a full show on you tube. And didn’t have time to search for it elsewhere.

I got a new light box recently. My previous two boxes were home made. They worked pretty well but I needed to upgrade. I wanted a sturdier box, the cardboard one was getting wobbly.
I found a set on ebay. It had the box, four back drops, two lights, and a mini tripod. The light box folds into itself making it portable. Once folded there are pockets to store the backdrops.
The box had three diffuser sides. The front, bottom and back are open. The carrying case folds back and supports the box. It also keeps the back from being fully opened. There is strip of velcro on the back to attach the backdrops. The backdrops are about a yard long and 16 inches wide. They are a little thin. Since the bottom is open, what ever you place the box on may show through the fabric. I set my box up on chessboard and had to double layer the backdrops to hide the squares.
The set also had a small camera tripod. It’s really too small to support my camera. I already have tripods so that didn’t bother me. There are two small lights with the set. Right now my table top studio is set up on a podium, not a table. So I have limited room to test them within my box. I’m really enjoying the results of the box.
Tee-Fury has two shirts for sale on Tuesday April 16. One is a breaking Bad shirt, the other is a LEGO mini-fig from The IT Crowd. I’ve not seen the show but heard it’s funny. It is a British sitcom about a tech support. The shirt is designed by powerpig aka Chris McVeigh LEGO Builder and Photographer. So if you get the shirt you are supporting a fellow AFOL.

I’m testing my new lightbox. This is one of the images I shot in it. I’ll post more pics from the light box later this week. These Mini Legs are made for walking post was shot in the new lightbox. I’ll also have something special planned for Thursday. I’m trying to beat my views for this month verses 2012 views. So that means more posts.
It rained all day yesterday. Today I got off work early. I had time to run my errands, work on future posts and still had time to enjoy the sunshine.
Mini Action Legs by Brick Fortress
Hobbits can’t run, at least LEGO hobbits and other short character can’t run. Normal short LEGO legs are not moveable so the smaller characters cannot move, or sit. The mini-action legs offered by Brick Fortress allow poseability for the minis in either in your MOCs or stop motion films.
I just bought a few of these and would like to share my thoughts on them. The legs are nicely made and feel similar to LEGO. They feel solid and move easily without fear of breaking like some knock off brick brands. The colors are near to LEGO colors. They are available in five colors now, others will be offered in the future, more on that later. Current color options are black, gray, dark blue, reddish-brown, and tan.
Here we can see side by side comparison using the Evil Dwarf from series 5. The dwarf on the Left has mini-action legs, the dwarf on the right has the standard legs. The legs have some curve to them rather than the straight look of LEGO legs. There is a center to the legs that allows the movement. And the legs are slightly taller due to the hips.
Price: The legs are listed for $1.25 each but currently sold for $1.15 each with price breaks at higher volumes order 20 or more and the price drops to $1.00 each and order 100 or more and they drop $0.95 each. Shipping is cheap. Plus They fill orders fast. I ordered on the 31st the legs were shipped on the 2nd and arrived the 4th.
The tan legs match Yoda and allow the Jedi to Move.
The next color will be.. up to you. Brick Fortress held a survey for most requested colors. The top four are now up for voting. The choices are: Dark Green, Green, Dark Tan and Dark Brown. You’ll notice in the Frodo and Dwarf pics the color don’t match the original that because they figs were made with dark brown legs. Dark brown is not offered yet so I used the reddish-brown legs. I need my Hobbits to match. Frodo and Samwise can’t complete their mission if their outfits are not color coordinated. So vote dark brown Frodo needs action legs so he can simply walk into Mordor.
Voting ends April 30th so be sure to get your votes in by then! Choose your color and vote!
Summary:The legs are well made and look great. They function like the regular size LEGO legs. I can see these being used in stop motion films. You should try a few and give your figs added poseability.
About National Tartan Day: April 6
Americans of Scottish descent have played a vibrant and influential role in the development of this country. However not until 1997 was this influence recognized by a single-year U.S. Senate Resolution that appeared in the Congressional Record of April 7, 1997. In 1998, National Tartan Day of April 6 was officially recognized on a permanent basis when the U.S. Senate passed Senate Resolution 155 recognizing April 6th as National Tartan Day. This was followed by companion bill House Resolution 41 which was passed by the U.S. House of Representatives on March 9, 2005. The passage of this bill was due to the work of the National Capital Tartan Committee, Inc. and president James Morrison.
The date of April 6 commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Arbroath in 1320, which asserted Scotland’s sovereignty over English territorial claims, and which was an influence on the American Declaration of Independence.

A 250-room hotel at the Legoland California theme park in Carlsbad opened its doors Friday that not only allows kids to play out their LEGO fantasies, but is designed to maximize their fun.
The lobby has a castle-themed play area that features a LEGO pirate ship and a LEGO-filled moat. Behind the reception desk guests are greeted by 6,000 different LEGO mini-figures and colorful brick flowers on the counter, which has been lower to accommodate its pint-sized clientele.

Everything has finally clicked into place. The dragons, monkeys, and ladybugs and thousands of other LEGO brick models are ready for their legions of fans to descend for the April 5th opening of LEGOLAND Hotel, the country’s first hotel devoted to the hugely popular building block.
“The buzz surrounding this hotel is massive,” said Suzanne Rowan Kelleher, managing editor at the family-travel site MiniTime.com.
As LEGOS do not actually make for a safe and practical building material outside the playroom, the three-story, 250-room hotel, which sits at the main entrance to the 28-acre LEGOLAND California theme park in Carlsbad, isn’t actually made out of the construction toys.
All guest rooms include:
As a special privilege, LEGOLAND Hotel guests will get entry to select LEGOLAND rides and attractions before the Park officially opens. Please see the Hotel concierge for details.

I shot this a couple days ago. Yesterday was too cold and overcast to get great outdoor marco shots. We’re still at that time of year where its warm one day and near freezing the next. Plus there’s not much flora and fauna to shoot yet.
The elves are watching stars the Mirkwood elf from LEGO The Hobbit: Mirkwood Elf Guard Set #30212
I have a new page that lists some of the apps, tricks, and websites that help you determine what is hiding in that blind bag. The link is at the top of this blog. I made a page rather than a post so it could be easier to find. If you have more tips or sites please post them on the page.
What’s in the Bag.
The blind bags are cool but they can be frustrating finding the figure you want. You may want just one figure from a set. You might want to collect all the figures. or you may want multiples of the same figure for army building. But how can you know what is in the bag? These Blind bags guides can help.
The best I’ve found for LEGO is the Touch Guide in the My Mini’s app. The app coats $1.99 so less than a mini-fig and its well worth it. no only does it tell you what to feel for it shows you what mini’s you might confuse with it.
March was great for Mini-fig collectors. There were two dvd releases that included exclusive min-figs. Target had an exclusive Bilbo Baggins mini fig with the Hobbit DVD/Blu-ray combo pack. Plus the Cartoon network LEGO Star Wars special, The Empire Strikes Out had an exclusives Darth Vader mini-fig. I’ll tell you about my experience with each.
I’ll start with The Empire Strikes Out DVD cause it a shorter story. The special aired on Cartoon Network last September. Last time there was a Star Wars:LEGO special the dvd release was announced right after wards. This time it took a while for the announcement. Speculation was what would mini-fig if any, would be included in the dvd release. This time it was Darth Vader with a medal.
The figure looks pretty cool and an alternate Darth Vader is always cool. The dvd retail for $14.99 but Amazon and Target have it for $9.99. It was easy to find on the shelfs at Target unlike the Hobbit dvd. The dvd was released on March 26.
When it was revealed that Target would offer an exclusive mini-fig with the purchase of The Hobbit dvd/Blu-ray combo I was eager to shop at Target. I decided to pre-order the set. I was afraid the store would sell out before I could get there. So I ordered from target.com, the delivery date was a few days after the date the dvds would be in store. I didn’t expect to be able to watch the movie that night anyway so it wasn’t that big of a deal. But I remember the days when you could pre-order a dvd or game and it would be delivered the same day it was in the stores. I had the same problem with the LEGO:Lord of The Rings Game.
The Sunday ads were released and the in store price was two dollars cheaper than the online price. Did Target guarantee and match prices like amazon did? No. The day the dvd came the online target.com listed the set as unavailable. I was worried they’d sell out. But They tell me if they were out right? I thought about going to the store but didn’t. The next day still no shipping notification. the set was still listed as unavailable online. I had to run some errands and went to Target. They still had about four sets with the mini-fig so I grabbed one. Turned out to be a good decision. This was on Wednesday.
The expected delivery date was between Friday the 22-tues 26. I thought about cancelling the order but I knew some birthdays were coming up and that make a good gift. Finally they send a shipping notification on Saturday. But the pic they sent with it was of the regular DVD/Blu-ray set sans Bilbo. But when I clicked the link in the email it showed the set with Bilbo. And the expected delivery date was changed to March 30. a week after the original expected date.
Finally on Saturday I open the mailbox and inside in a small package, It’s thin so I know before I open that there is no figure in the set. It was a holiday weekend so I waited till Monday to return the dvd to a Target store. The Hobbit dvd was released on March 19 it arrived on March 30. From the time it was released and arrived i had gone to Target bought the Hobbit dvd, made another trip to Target and got the Star Wars special. So lesson learned don’t preorder from Target. get out there and fight the crowds.
The Bilbo figure is very well done. He has blue jacket, a vest and an ascot. His head is double-sided. You will see him in this blog again.

A cool Star Wars LEGO item I found. I saw it and had to order one.Expect a fuller post on this event in the near future.

On January 1, 2007 two hundred members of the 501st Legion were invited by George Lucas to march in the Rose Bowl parade. It was an epic moment to show the world that the Legion can represent the world of Star Wars with pride.
On January 1, 2013 we announced the beginning of the Rose Parade LEGO Diorama Project to gather 200+ LEGO Stormtrooper figures and other assorted figures to recreate that epic scene and have it available to show at massive Legion events (shooting for CVII in 2014!).
