Clone Wars: Darth Maul Returns, A look back.
With the new Obi Wan Kenobi series airing lets have a look back at some Clone Wars content. Here is a blog post from 2012, when Darth Maul’s return was announced. We ran a series predicting what the new Darth Maul might look like. Rather than repost the entire series We’ll just put then all in one post.
This weekend The Phantom Menace returns to the big screen but this time in 3D. Lucasfilm is promoting the re-release with packaging and advertising featuring Darth Maul. Darth Maul was cut in two and plummeted to his death in the final act of the movie.
But this spring he returns to the small screen in The Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. Since the Clone Wars takes place after Phantom Menace you probably have some question like, How did he survive? If he survived why is he just now showing up? legs? or Does George Lucas know what continuity means?
We’d like to help answer one of those questions, here’s our first prediction of what Darth Maul’s new legs will look like.
Stick your head in the sand.
Ostrich’s legs from LEGO Prince of Persia Ostrich Race (#7570).
Spider-legs
This time he steals Nute Gunray’s Mechno-chair. It look kind of like spider legs which is the closet our predictions came to being right.
“Bones” McMaul
Sith on Wheels
Dalek Maul
Neimoidian Legs
Maybe he steals the legs from Neimoidian, Nute Gunray. Preiovous was Maul steals a chair why not just steal legs?
In the “Brothers” episode of the Clone Wars we finally caught a glimpse of the new Darth Maul and then he had spider like legs. The Sith was found weak, insane, and thirsting for vengeance. Eventually he gets bipedal legs.

Clone Wars: Darth Maul Returns, But how?

Darth Maul did return in comic books in Star Wars: Visionaries but that was a What if? story.
Star Wars Science Xcavations Skulls!
I recently found these at Wal-mart. They are part of the Star Wars Science line. The crates are blind boxes that contain the skulls of various creatures from the Star Wars Universe.
The crates are filled with sand. You dig the bones out and build the skull. The sand is dense and clumps together. It might be kinetic sand. It’s not regular toy sand. They didn’t include a digging tool so I used a plastic spoon. Eventually I just turned the crate upside down and dumped it into an old plastic lunch meat package.
I hate sand’ ‘it’s course and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere’
Once all the parts are out you can build the skull. The first set I opened was a Hutt. It looks cool but took some wiggling to get the jaw to pop into place.
Series 1 includes Hutt, Trandoshan, Gamorrean, Rodian, Monkey-lizard, and Zabrak.
The Science part of these toys is that they based these skulls on actual animal skulls. The Xcavation set includes a pamphlet with what earth animals on which they based their designs. It has scientific names and habitat information. They used ape and board skulls to design the Gamorrean skull. And Alligator and Iguana skulls for references for the Trandashan skull. Which was the second package I opened. Boosk the Bounty Hunter was a Trandashan.
You can see a bit of the red sand still attached to the skull. Preview photos from the toy fair show certain skulls are packed in certain colored sand.

Hutt and Trandashan Skulls shown here with Black Series BB-8 for size reference.
What’s in the box: CHEAT CODES:
These codes are embossed on bottom of the plastic boxes:
- 125 Rodian
- 127 Hutt
- 128 Gammorren Guard
- 129 Maul
- 130 Monkey Lizard
- 131 Trandashan
I had a bit of a preview of these kits a while back. If you remember my BB-8 behind a crate post from earlier in the month you’ve seen the crates. I just now have time to do a proper write-up on them.
These sets are cool and a fun little activity. They come with a Skull, toy sand, and a crate for around $4.99. Uncle Milton also makes a Rancor and Tauntaun Skelton models. I haven’t seen them in stores yet.

Star Wars LEGO Advent Calendar 2012 * Dec 6
Today’s Advent gift is from The Phantom Menace, a mini figure of a Battle Droid, a security battle droid to be exact. There was one in last year calendar as well it was a pilot droid. (See it here) Yoda made short work of it. If they are going to use the calendar for army building I wish it would be Imperial, Rebel, or Clone Armies and not boring droids. This one didn’t even have a weapon. Although last year’s droid image is popular at conventions with the younger generation of fans.
There’s online content as well this year. With each door has a code to enter on LEGO’s SW calendar page. There’s a small animation of the model. It’s like the item building scenes from the LEGO Star Wars Games. I’m already getting searches for advent calendar Lego code so if I get shares or likes, I’ll post the advent calendar Lego codes for those that want to see.
Don’t worry about that droids, Yoda is back!

Darth “no Legs” Maul has returned * Spoilers.
The “Brothers” episode of the Clone Wars has aired. We finally caught a glimpse of the new Darth Maul and for now at least he has spider like legs. The Sith was found weak, insane, and thirsting for vengeance. Hopefully next week we will get answers to where he’s been and how did he survive. The preview for next week’s episode showed him bipedal.
any here’s one of our guesses from feb of what he’d look like and a pic from Star Wars.com of what he really did look like. Kind of close.
