LEGO Princess Event at Toys R US Sat Sept 17 and 24
This September Toys R Us has two LEGO Disney Princess Events. On back to back weekends your child can build Cogsworth and Lumiere from Beauty and the Beast. There is no pre-registration required, but it is first come first served and only while supplies last.
The events start at noon. There will be tables set up with bins of LEGO bricks. Attendees collect the parts they need then build the set. For a more in depth look read my post about the LEGO Captain America build from August.

Hulk Build and Grow!
On August 27 we completed the Avengers build and grow series.
This was a fairy quick build. Hulks arm raise when you move a level in his back.

The free kit has a wooden project, instructions with a comic on the back, a patch of that project, an apron and goggles. You can put your child’s name on the apron and iron on the patches. Then they can wear it the next time.
NEXT PROJECT: The next Build and Grow project is a fireboat. The event is not till September 23. Registration has not opened yet. You can see a grayed out patch of the project on the Build and Grow page.
To attend the event you need to register at Lowe’s Build and Grow. Use the store locator to fins the nearest event. Fill out the form. Then print out the waiver and bring it to with you. Registration for the next event opens Monday after an event.

Avengers August Day Twenty-nine
This past Saturday Toys R Us had a LEGO Build Event. I took my son so he could build a Captain America Mosaic. This is a free event and no preregistration is required, but it is first come first served.
We went to Lowe’s, built our Hulk figure(post coming soon) then killed some time shopping before we went to Toys R Us. At TRU they set up a couple tables, on with the LEGO bricks and another for a workstation to build the set.
There is a poster with the bricks you need. It list how many of each piece you need. There are bins of bricks on the table. You walk around the table and bag all the pieces. Then go build the project. Unfortunately at this the location they didn’t set the bricks up in order. They should have been in the same order they were on the poster but they were not. It took longer to collect the bricks and we missed a few and had to go back.
We took our bag of pieces and our 1:1 template found some space and built it. The base is a 16×16 square. To build it you used the template to figure the correct brick.
It was a cool build, my son had fun and now he has a cool art piece.

Lowe’s Black Widow Build and Grow
Black Widow Build and Grow!
August 13 was Black Widow day at Lowe’s. I unfortunately had to work so my wife and son picked up the set and brought it home. We built it Tuesday night.
This was the easiest build so far, just four steps including the wedge base. And only one size of nails so you have to sort them. There’s a couple places where you add stickers before you can hammer nails. But nothing too tricky.
The Black Widow moves at the waist. She spins so it looks likes she attacking with her baton.

Thor God of Thunder Build and Grow!
Build and Grow!
Last Saturday we made another trip to Lowe’s for Build and Grow. This week’s build was Thor. We were attending an art show in another city, so had to attend a different location. They were set up different from my local Lowe’s, they didn’t have work stations set up so we just built on the floor.
This was a fairly easy build. The instructions were clear for adults but smaller kids would need help. There are some steps where you have to place stickers before nailing. The instructions point these out just be sure to read them a couple of times.
Like all the other heroes, Thor has an action feature, he has an audio component. Press the button in his chest to hear thunder. It is not too loud. So should bother someone if a child is playing with it in the same room.
After completing the build. We showed it to the Clinic Captain and got a certificate. The Clinic Captains fill them out while the kids were building the project. That was a nice bit of organization on their part. It has the child’s name , the project name, and the date. The graphics are similar to the ones on the patches and instruction booklets.
The figure comes with a wedge-shaped base with the character’s name on it. Once you get all six the wedges make a circle with the Avengers logo. The Avengers stand back to back in a cool display.
There are two more Build and Grow Avengers events. The next one is Black Widow and Hulk finishes out the collection. The date for the Black Widow set is Aug 13 and the Hulk date has not been posted yet.
What’s Included?
The free kit has a wooden project, instructions with a comic on the back, a patch of that project, an apron and goggles. The event I went to we saw kids with aprons and goggles. We didn’t get either when we checked in. When we returned the hammer, we saw the aprons and asked for one, but I didn’t see goggles. You can put your child’s name on the apron and iron on the patches. Then they can wear it the next time.

This Summer your Child can Assemble the Avengers!
Build and Grow!
Need a free activity for your little geek? Lowe’s offers free building clinics, the children’s version is called Build and Grow. The summer theme is Avengers: Ultron Revolutions. Every other Saturday, they have a new kit.
I took my son to one a few weeks ago. They were set up in the lumber section. There were lots of work stations set up for the event. I gave them my waiver and they ask “Are you building here?” We said yes and they gave us the set and a child sized hammer. We found a table and sorted the pieces.
The first set was Captain America. The kit had several pieces of pre cut wood, two sizes of nails, stickers and instructions. Once sorted the pieces, we began building. There were a couple missteps in building but it was easy to back up and fix. My son was distracted by all the noise and got a little restless. But I told him we were almost done.
The instructions were clear for adults but kids will need help. There are some steps where you have to place stickers before nailing. Some parts have to be set between others before you can nail. The instructions point these out just be sure to read them a couple times.
The final product is neat. A couple of weeks later they had the Iron Man. I had to work early that day so my wife took my son to pick up the set and they brought it home to build later. We did the same thing this past weekend with the Falcon Build and Grow event.
Each character has an action, Captain America moves his shield, Iron man has a light up arc reactor. and Falcon flaps his wings. The figures also come with a wedge shaped base with the character’s name on it. Once you get all six the wedges make a circle with the Avengers logo. The Avengers stand Back to back in a cool display.
There are three more Build and Grow Avengers events. The next one is on July 23 and the featured character is Thor. After that is Black Widow and Hulk finishes out the collection. The dates for the last two haven’t been posted yet, but so far it’s been every other Saturday.

UPDATE I have seen other articles stating that the events are every other Saturday year round. But that may not be the case. They are skipping a week between the Thor and Black Widow projcts. Always check The Lowe’s site for the event date.
